Documentation

Algeria's gross domestic product, quarter by quarter, 2001 to 2025. 98 consecutive quarters, with no gap at all, and fifteen items of the resources-uses balance: GDP, imports and exports broken into goods and services, household and government final consumption, gross fixed capital formation, changes in inventories.

What you cannot do without this file. The national statistics office publishes its quarterly accounts bulletin by bulletin, each commenting on one quarter and republishing the previous two or three years for context. Rebuilding the series means gathering some thirty PDFs, finding the one numeric table amid commentary and charts, and resolving the overlaps — because the bulletins do not always agree with one another.

Seven accounting identities, all verified, on every table kept. The annual column is the sum of the four quarters. Imports and exports are each the sum of their goods and services. Final consumption is households plus government. Gross accumulation is fixed capital formation plus inventory change. Gross domestic expenditure is final consumption plus gross accumulation. And the balance itself: GDP plus imports equals gross domestic expenditure plus exports.

That last one matters most. It links the two halves of the table, where a column shift can leave every vertical sum intact without any other check noticing. Twenty-two tables out of twenty-two pass all seven.

Revisions are flagged, not smoothed away. Because each bulletin republishes earlier years, the same value arrives by several routes — and 302 of them differ between bulletins. These are revisions to the accounts, not misreadings: both publications satisfy their own identities. The most recent bulletin's figure prevails, per standard statistical practice; the first estimate is kept in montant_premiere_publication, the revision flagged by revise, and bulletin_source names the bulletin the retained figure comes from.

The annual column is not republished. It is the sum of the four quarters, already verified as such. Shipping it would duplicate the data and double the total for anyone summing the column without reading this page.

Unit and nature. Millions of current dinars, seasonally adjusted, exactly as published. No reprocessing on our side — no deflation, no rebasing, no conversion.

A glimpse of what the series shows: quarterly GDP moves from roughly 1,200 billion dinars in 2001 to over 10,000 billion in the first quarter of 2025, with the second-quarter 2020 drop plainly visible — 4,628 billion against 6,391 the quarter before.

Our "Consumer Price Index — continuous monthly series" product lets you move from these current amounts to constant volumes.
