Documentation
Average monthly net wages in Algeria, by economic sector, skill level and legal sector, across five editions of the national statistics office's annual enterprise wage survey: 2009, 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2022. 656 observations, twelve sectors, no missing year on any sector.
What you cannot do without this file. Each edition is published as a standalone PDF and never joined to the others. Worse, sector labels change between editions: "Transports & Communications" appears under six spellings, plus a seventh where the page layout split the label in two and left only the word "Communications". Following a sector across thirteen years means reconciling all of that — done here, with the section_source column preserving each label exactly as printed so every figure stays traceable to its page.
Two independent arithmetic checks on every row. Each amount is published alongside a "ratio to the mean", but the tables do not use the same base: some divide by the mean for that skill level (column-wise), others by the mean for that sector (row-wise). Which one applies was not guessed from the table number — that changes between editions — but tested both ways, a table being kept only if one normalisation holds across all its cells. 536 of the 656 observations carry both ratios, hence both checks.
Also cross-checked against the narrative text of the publications, a source independent of the tables. The office writes "38,500 DA" for the public sector in 2010; the file gives 38,468. It writes "83,800 DA" for managers in 2022; the file gives 83,773. It writes "32,900 DA" for construction; the file gives 32,899. Six cross-checks, six matches to the rounding the text itself uses.
Two errors caught by these checks rather than by eye. A block of 23 sectors was in fact two tables run together on one page. More seriously, a page carrying "Tab 2 — PUBLIC & PRIVATE SECTOR" above and "Tab 3 — PUBLIC SECTOR" below was read under the first title alone: public-sector-only wages came out labelled public-and-private. Invisible in a file, glaring to anyone who knows the figures. Both are fixed, and cross-table comparison now reports no contradiction.
What the file does not cover. Two tables out of thirty were rejected and are absent: one whose ratios reconcile under neither normalisation, one truncated before its total row. The years 2011, 2012, 2014-2016 and 2018-2021 are not covered — the office did not publish them in this form, or their document does not extract cleanly.
Survey scope. Enterprises of ten employees or more, excluding agriculture and public administration. Public health facilities fall under administration and are therefore out of scope: the "Health" sector covers market services only.
For context: the all-sector average net wage moves from 25,049 DA in 2009 to 43,467 DA in 2022. Our "Consumer Price Index — continuous monthly series" product lets you restate that series in constant dinars.

Version history
- 1.1.0Current version8/28/2026
